Ioannis Ntanos to deliver three presentations at WPATH 2024

The World Professional Association of Transgender Health (WPATH) conference is heading to Portugal this year for its 28th scientific symposium and I am delighted to announce that I have been accepted to deliver a total of three presentations at the event.

Running from September 25th - 30th, WPATH brings together gender affirming practitioners from around the world for an educational and networking opportunity where we get to learn from those operating at the cutting edge of their profession.

I will be delivering one poster presentation on the differences in aesthetic expectations between transmasculine and non-binary individuals, and two oral presentations. The oral presentations will be on the topics of: BMI and the risk of a need for a revision, and bilateral mastectomies as day case operation.

Keen to be more involved this year, I approached WPATH with a range of ideas, together with my partner and wife, Elena Kariki MD, a radiologist, bone health expert and researcher. I was overwhelmed at the response I received, not only from patients, who were happy to share their experiences and insights to support the research, but also from WPATH themselves, who were very supportive of me as a solo independent practitioner.

I was also selected to review sixty abstracts submitted by other practitioners attending the event, on the topics of both surgery and education. It was a fantastic experience which provided invaluable insights into the latest work being done in the field of gender affirming healthcare.

WPATH is a particularly worthwhile event due to the high level of patient participation, something which really sets it apart from any other conference in this space and I am really looking forward to being there this year. In fact, I will be reporting from Lisbon via a special episode of the Top Surgery Podcast. So if you would like to join me as a guest, or you would just like to pop by and say hello, I would be delighted to meet you.

I look forward to seeing you at WPATH 2024.
